Baby Turtle Release El Paredon
The Driftwood Surfer Turtle Conservation Project: Join Our Daily Turtle Release at 5:30 AM
At The Driftwood Surfer Hostel, we’re leading the way in sea turtle conservation in El Paredón, Guatemala. From September to December, guests can participate in our daily turtle release at 5:30 AM, a unique and unforgettable experience that supports the survival of these endangered creatures.
Due to the ongoing issue of turtle egg poaching in Guatemala, we take action by purchasing over 60,000 eggs each year from poachers. These eggs are safely placed in our protected hatchery, where they’re cared for until they hatch, saving them from being sold on the black market. Once ready, the baby turtles are released into the ocean, giving them a chance to thrive in their natural habitat.
The turtle release tour is donation-based, and you can further support our efforts by adopting a nest. For just Q100, you can adopt a full nest, or for Q50, you can adopt half a nest—both options contributing directly to the preservation of these majestic sea turtles.
By joining this conservation project, you’ll not only witness the inspiring journey of baby turtles heading to the sea but also make a real difference in their survival.
